Wolverines Whipped in Happy, Happy Valley
The many Penn State fans who have lived through the 12 long years of losses to Michigan can finally breathe easy. Our 2008 Nittany Lions took that streak and shattered it into a million pieces with a blockbuster 46-17 win over the Wolverines.
In front of a Homecoming crowd of 110, 017 hopeful fans and hundreds of thousands of alums at home, our boys in Blue & White started in a lackluster fashion. After some worrisome pregame omens the first quarter seemed to be a continuation of our bad luck against the Maize & Blue as we quickly fell behind. But thanks to a couple of key plays we stayed within reach, and at the half the score was 17-14 Michigan. The tide turned at halftime as Penn State fought for the win, and in the end the Nittany Nation celebrated a monster game over our Big Ten nemesis. What a night!
There are truly too many players who made outstanding efforts to name them all. Our offense was balanced yet again with 251 yards passing and 231 yards rushing for a total of 482 yards. Our defense had 13 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 safety, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 partially blocked punt. Our kicking game - in contrast to Michigan's - was solid as always, and special teams did everything they needed to do.
So now WE ARE...8-0. And next up is #9 Ohio State at Columbus. We know what we have to do. We have the will, the talent, the desire. We have the TEAM to accomplish it...not just 2 key players, but many. And most of all, WE ARE...PENN STATE.
