Penn State Moves to #6 After Beating Illinois!

A wild WHITEOUT crowd of 108,626 - the 8th largest in stadium history - watched the Nittany Lions take down the Fighting Illini on Saturday after a long day of tailgating. Beaver Stadium bounced, cheered, waved, and sang in the rain as our boys in generic white and blue won the game 38-24. We truly demonstrated "The Greatest Show in College Football" for primetime television. Thank you Lion fans, students, cheerleaders, and players!

Illinois looked good early in the game but the Lions roared back to take control of the dangerous and wily Illini. On offense, we gained 422 total yards. Williams was a standout as he scored 3 ways for the first time under coach Paterno, and Royster was predictably stellar. The offensive line allowed only 1 sack on Clark, opened holes for the ground game, and protected the pass. Our defense was a bit sluggish, letting Illinois get through for 2 early touchdowns, but then it tightened up and slowed the Illinois attack. Bowman had another spectacular day with 10 tackles (his 4th team high this season), Rubin had 10, Hull and Maybin had 7 each, and Scirotto had 6 plus an interception. We saw many players step up as needed to fill holes left by injury or other reasons. Way to go, Lions - that's what makes a champion team.

The team now prepares to hit the road for Purdue. We expect them to roll over the Boilermakers, who are having trouble with their rushing game. Go State - Beat Purdue!!!
