Penn State Leaves Purdue Boiling
On the road in West Lafayette, the #6 Nittany Lions won their second conference opener since 2002 by a score of 20-6 in front of 57,215 fans at Ross Ade Stadium.
The offense was uncharacteristically low-def with a number of slips and slides. Despite that, we still had an incredibly balanced attack with 202 yards on the ground and 220 in the air. Royster had a solid day with 141 yards rushing and another 53 receiving. Williams moved into 3rd place on the Lions' all-time list with 52 yards receiving. Clark also kept Purdue busy by completing 18 of 26 for 220 yards and one touchdown. This win against the Boilermakers brings Penn State to a 6-0 record and makes us bowl-eligible with half the season left to play.
The Lions defense rose to the occasion on Saturday by shutting down the Big Ten's top passing offense and causing Coach Tiller to bench their starting QB. Purdue has been averaging 404 yards per game but the boys in white held them to just 241. Hull with 11 tackles, Astorino with an interception, and Maybin and Gaines with sacks were all standouts on D.
Next weekend we visit the wily (and frustrated) Badgers at Wisconsin. they're 0-2 in conference play and will be looking to bounce back against the Lions. But we all know that a lion can take on a badger and win! Let's go State! BEAT THE BADGERS!!
(can you feel it...coming in the air tonight...)
